Big snow and big fun on the Aspen slopes!

Published by at under Things To Do

During the month of January, Frias Properties of Aspen employees enjoyed the spoils of a number a big snowfalls in the area by hitting some of their favorite slopes. All four area mountains – Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk and Snowmass – are boasting bases deeper than 36 inches of packed powder with (at least) another 6” of fresh powder on top! Some areas of Aspen Highlands and Snowmass have a base as deep as 55 inches!

X Games was another big success in 2012, with a big snow dump coming only days before the event. Crowds swarmed to the area to see Shaun White capture an unprecedented 5th consecutive gold medal in the men’s superpipe, with an estimated 45,000 in attendance on Saturday, Jan. 28. Topped off with a number of amazing events and performances – as well as a stirring tribute to fallen competitor Sarah Burke – the 2012 event will be one to remember for the ages.

Just how great is the snow? Here’s what a few Frias Properties employees had to say about their on-the-hill adventures:

“The Aspen Skiing Company has done an exceptional job of grooming our slopes during the recent large snowfalls. The skiing is now in mid-season condition. We have the least-crowded and best-groomed slopes in America! This, along with fabulous food and service on the mountains, make Aspen the place to be this and every year!” – Chuck Frias, managing partner

“We skied Snowmass on Sunday [Jan. 22] with 12 inches of new powder – certainly the best day of the year thus far! High Alpine was terrific and Radar’s Trees was the place to be as we had fresh turns all day.” – Tim Clark, managing partner

“Here I am in the woods at Tiehack. Nobody around! I love it when the X Games are in town!” (see picture) – Bob Silverman, front desk

“I teach skiing and many of my real estate clients are also ski clients. I moved here for the lifestyle 11 years ago and one of my favorite things is watching clients learn to ski our world-class mountains like a local!” – Sam Green, broker

“My first day snowboarding this year was on Aspen Highlands on a bluebird day after an enormous snowstorm. After a great morning of skiing powder, we had lunch at Cloud 9, which is an Aspen favorite. The food and views are unmatched at Cloud 9 and the diners’ camaraderie makes for an interesting time! The highlight of the day was riding down after all of the lifts had closed and no one else was on the mountain. The peacefulness was striking and an experience that I will never forget. I highly recommend taking the time to enjoy a meal at Cloud 9 and riding down an empty mountain.” – Alex Cox-Cuzzi, group sales manager

“The snow just keeps getting better!  I got out on the Cirque and provided quality skiing in an area that had been untouched all season.  Get out and enjoy it!” – Kristi Gray, Silverglo front desk

“[It was my] first time on a snowmobile at the T-Lazy-7 Ranch with friends from Chicago and it was fantastic! We took the Maroon Bells tour for the majestic view and some great photos. After that, they took us out to an open field were we raced for four or five turns. It was a lot of fun – great people, great atmosphere. What a beautiful day in Aspen!”  (see picture) – Daniel Ciobanu, Telecom technician
