This week’s blog begins a multi-part series on the towns and neighborhoods of Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley. In this edition, our blog team takes a closer look at the downtown core of Aspen.
When planning a vacation to Aspen, there are number of things to consider. One of the more important factors is what neighborhood to stay in. Being a real town, Aspen offers a number of neighborhoods, each with its own unique quirks. Picking the right locale can save you time and make your getaway that much more enjoyable. Single or married, with or without kids, Aspen offers a myriad of neighborhoods suitable to any lifestyle.
THE DOWNTOWN CORE: Throw away your car keys, everything is within walking/biking distance! For trips to Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands or down valley, the Rubey Park bus station is nearby. Hit great breakfast spots like Jour De Fete, Main Street Bakery or Peach’s. Skin up Aspen Mountain at dawn. Grab coffee at the Sundeck. Download on the Silver Queen Gondola with breathtaking sunrise views over Aspen. Nightlife? This is Aspen!
The downtown core offers mostly free-market and fractional condominiums, all against the backdrop of Aspen Mountain. These condominiums can range from lodge rooms to 4 or 5 bedrooms. Many Frias guests enjoy the convenience of the Independence Square hotel, which is located in the heart of Aspen only one block from the bus stop and the gondola. The Independence Square offers lodge rooms ranging from standard to premier, and features a rooftop hot tub, free continental breakfast served daily, and an on-site check-in plus housekeeping services. It’s probably the closest thing to a traditional “hotel” that you’ll find in Aspen. For our more discerning guests, Frias vacation specialists recommend the luxury accommodations of the St. Regis Residence Club or The Hyatt Grand Aspen – simply the finest that Aspen has to offer. Also close to the downtown core are the Clarendon, Chateau Chaumont and Chateau Dumont, which offer a wide variety of accommodations ranging from standard to luxury.
