Aspen Snowmass Vacation Blog

So, you’ve decided on a visit to Aspen. Yea! But how do you choose where to stay from the multiple properties Frias manages? Great question. We recognize it can be overwhelming. For as small a town as Aspen can seem, there are lots of nooks and crannies where we have condo complexes that can go un-noticed if you simply cruise the main streets. We find it’s best to break down Aspen — and our properties — into neighborhoods and highlight the pros and cons for each and let you take it from there! Once you find the neighborhood that fits your style, you can choose how many bedrooms and what rating fits your size and budget. Our units range from studio to 6+ bedrooms and the four-tier rating system starts at economy, moves to standard, then to deluxe, and finally ends with our luxury units being the highest end.

GALENA NEIGHBORHOOD

These properties butt right up to the historic Lift 1A so walking from your front door to the lift in your ski boots will NOT be a problem. These properties are also walkable to the main haunts of Downtown Aspen. The only catch is because they are so close to the ski mountain, going into town is an easy downhill skip, and the way home is an uphill hop. The views of town from many of these units is fantastic as they do sit on a hill. And due to their proximity to the mountain, the slopes are right out the window for viewing as well. These properties check in at the Fasching Haus office. Here are the properties in the Galena neighborhood:

Two of our luxury collection properties are technically located in the Galena neighborhood. These properties have their own check-in desks.

If convenience is your primary driver, the properties in this neighborhood are for you. All of these complexes are no more than three blocks to Gondola Plaza making venturing to the mountain as easy as it gets. In addition to proximity to the lift is proximity to town and all Aspen has to offer. They are all one or two blocks from the City Market grocery store making crafting your own meal plan a snap, but if eating out is on the agenda, these properties are walkable to every restaurant in town. Check in for these properties is at the main Frias office at 730 East Durant.

We do consider the properties of Concept 600 and Obermeyer Place to be in the Central Core of Aspen, however, while the previous seven properties are neighbors, Concept 600 and Obermeyer Place have a slightly different location. These two properties are located on the opposite side of Main Street and are therefore closer to 4-5 blocks from the gondola. The location of these two special properties come with benefits of its own. They are located very near Rio Grande and John Denver parks as well as the Rio Grande Trail and Theater Aspen. While walking to the gondola will require a few extra steps, enjoying the river and the aforementioned parks is right out your back door. Both of these properties check in at the 730 East Durant office.

Another centrally located property in the Central Core area that stands a bit apart both geographically and unit wise is the Independence Square Hotel. Located smack dab in the middle of Aspen – on the Cooper walking mall – Independence Square offers more hotel-like amenities including a continental breakfast and traditional lobby facilities. Vacationers staying in the Independence Square Hotel check in directly at the hotel.

LIFT 1A NEIGHBORHOOD

The Lift 1A neighborhood butts up directly to the Galena neighborhood making Fasching Haus the check-in office for this neighborhood as well. Again, these properties are extremely close to Lift 1A – even closer than the Galena neighborhood. All of these properties are either ski-in. ski-out or directly across the street from the lift – we could call them ALL ski-in, ski-out but we don’t want you crossing the street with your skis on!

RIVERFRONT NEIGHBORHOOD

If an Aspen vacation rental nestled next to the beautiful Roaring Fork River is your idea of a perfect place to lay your head, we have you covered with our Riverfront Neighborhood units. These properties are all located on the east side of town on the Roaring Fork as it meanders down from Independence Pass, into Aspen, through the Roaring Fork Valley, until it meets with the mighty Colorado in Glenwood Springs. The sounds of the roar in the spring and the trickle in the winter will make for a perfect natural white noise for sleeping and the location is still incredibly convenient as all three of these properties are located a mere 4-6 blocks from the gondola and downtown. These properties check in at the main Frias office at 730 East Durant.

The City Market grocery store is also close by allowing you to keep the quite vibe going through dinner time that can get a bit more hectic at the restaurant scene in town. All of these properties check in at the 730 East Durant main Frias office.

WEST END NEIGHBORHOOD

The historic West End neighborhood in Aspen is one of the most coveted. Primarily made-up of single family homes and duplexes, home owners and vacationers alike enjoy the unique architecture and community feeling. Located slightly further from the heart of Aspen than our other properties, the homes we manage and rent in the West End will make up for proximity with size and amenities. We do have one property that does not fall within the classic map of Aspen. The ski-in, ski-out Ritz Carlton Club is located at the base of Aspen Highlands. The Aspen Highlands base offers its own pros and cons. The Highlands Ale House and Willow Creek Bistro are two great restaurants servicing Aspen Highlands and the terrain at Aspen Highlands mountain is second to none with the Highland Bowl serving as the crown jewel for those looking for a challenge on the snow. The location is not walkable to downtown Aspen, but there is a free skier shuttle that runs most hours of the day making it an easy prospect for dinner or post-skiing activities.
