It's going to be another great winter season in Aspen, and the local airport is gearing up for a lot of traffic. Guests of Frias love the convenience of flying into the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, located only five minutes outside of Aspen. As we gear up for a spectacular season, let's take a look at some fun facts about Aspen air travel in 2016-17.

  • A total of 230,439 seats are now scheduled from December – April this winter, and increase of 3.8% over last winter and a 23% increase since winter 2012-13.
  • This winter there will be nonstop flights from nine cities – the most ever in the history of the Aspen airport.
  • Expanded American service from Dallas-Fort Worth now resuming Nov. 18 and up to three times daily peak winter plus daily service from Los Angeles (LAX) and Chicago (O'Haire) – 4,955 additional seats this winter.
  • New daily Delta nonstop flights from both Salt Lake City and Los Angeles (LAX) plus daily service from Minneapolis-St. Paul (holidays only) and Atlanta – 14,840 additional seats this winter.
  • United will resume daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago (O'Haire) and Houston (IAH) on Nov. 30, full winter schedules including San Francisco resume Dec 16.
  • United will not operate quite as many flights from Denver this winter, and there will be less peaking of flights on the weekends. This should help reduce airport congestion and further improve reliability.
  • Commercial carrier reliability at Aspen has never been better – 94% of all scheduled flights into Aspen last winter were completed, and this summer’s overall completion rate approached 99%.
  • United’s share of seats has declined from nearly 92% just five years ago to less than 75% this winter – We now have a healthier balance of carriers with more effective competitive pressure on fares and service.
  • A minor terminal remodel last winter nearly doubled the size of the secured boarding at the Aspen airport, and there is now a full service restaurant and bar beyond security.
  • All Frias Properties of Aspen guests receive complimentary transfers to and from the Aspen airport.
