In August, the art world descends upon Aspen as Aspen Art Museum hosts a series of events honoring those whose vision and creativity have impacted the field of contemporary art. The week culminates with the ArtCrush Gala, the Aspen Art Musuem's annual fundraiser and pinnacle of the art world's social calendar.

  • Aspen ArtWeek Welcome Party (Aspen Art Museum members & ArtCrush ticket holders only)
    Join Aspen Art Museum and Prada in celebrating the start of Aspen ArtWeek with a Welcome Party hosted at the museum. ArtCrush Gala auction works will be displayed for patrons to view. A musical performance by Standing on The Corner Art Ensemble and poetry by Precious Okoyomon will also take place on our rooftop!

  • Artist breakfast & tour of ArtCrush auction exhibition with Collector Committee Chair, Mary Zlot (free and open to the public, registration required)
    An in-depth look at the 2022 ArtCrush Auction works. Select artists will also be in special attendance.
  • Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio in conversation with Suzanne Hudson (free and open to the public, registration required)
    Eddie Rodolfo Aparicio’s practice addresses colonial and ecological concerns through material and formal means. Primarily using raw materials that have a strong connection to pre-Hispanic cultures in Central America, such as amber and rubber, Aparicio engages with the complex histories and contemporary concerns of the Latinx community in his native Los Angeles, the wider United States, and abroad.

  • The Spirits Are Laughing  
    Jeffrey Gibson presents THE SPIRITS ARE LAUGHING, an ambitious flag spinning and speaking performance at Anderson Park Meadow at the Aspen Institute.

  • Artist Honoree Talk: Gary Simmons in conversation with Travis Diehl (free and open to the public, registration required)
    Join ArtCrush 2022 Honoree Gary Simmons for a discussion with writer and editor Travis Diehl. The speakers will discuss Simmons’s sources and materials, from classrooms and cartoons as venues for cultural memory, to the formalism of racism in the United States. The pair will delve into Simmons’s evolution as an artist, expanding on his multifaceted practice that renders "history’s hard lines as porous, transitory, and futureward."

  • Together, a Ghost Cinema Performance (registration required)
    Artist Korakrit Arunanondchai and director Alex Gvojic (in collaboration with Tosh Basco) present Together, a “ghost cinema” performance taking place in an Aspen tree meadow in the mountains. The artist, in collaboration with members of the local community, will perform an Itinerant Cinema event inspired by the animistic cinematic practices of rural communities in Northeast Thailand.

    Every August, the Aspen Art Museum hosts three days of performances, talks, and celebrations of art, culminating in our annual ArtCrush summer gala. Aspen ArtWeek honors those whose creativity and vision have the greatest impact on the field of contemporary art.
