What is Snowmass, Colorado, known for?
Snowmass is a world premier ski area known for being one of the four mountains that encompass the Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort. It is the largest mountain with more than 3,300 skiable acres. Snowmass also boasts the longest continuous ski run in Colorado - Longshot - which is a 5.3 mile leg burner.
In 2020, Aspen Snowmass / The Roaring Fork Valley became the first IMBA Gold-Level Ride Center in Colorado, the fifth in the United States, and among seven in the world.
Snowmass Village is also home to the Snowmastodon site also known as the Ziegler Reservoir fossil site which is the location of an important Ice Age fossil excavation. A discovery in 2010 of Columbian mammoth bones attracted a historical dig led by crews from the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the U.S. Geological Survey. The effort was funded in part by a grant from National Geographic.
How far apart are Snowmass and Aspen?
Snowmass is just 8 miles from Aspen, and the two are connected by free shuttle routes. This makes it easy to enjoy both Snowmass accommodations and Aspen’s vibrant dining and nightlife during your stay.
What airport do you fly into for Snowmass?
Visitors typically fly into Aspen Snowmass Pitkin County Airport (ASE), located just 6 miles from Snowmass Village. Travel time is about 30 minutes from the gate to your Snowmass vacation rental. Is Snowmass good for families?
Absolutely! Snowmass is ideal for family vacations, offering beginner-friendly terrain, the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, tubing, and the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster. What is the best time of year to visit Snowmass?
Snowmass is a year round destination offering world class skiing and various winter activities from November through April. Summer hiking and biking begins as early as May and the summer months of June, July and August are peppered with events and activities including the Snowmass Rodeo and the Free Concert Series every Thursday night on Fanny Hill. Jazz Aspen Snowmass concludes the summer every Labor Day and Snowmass becomes a leaf peeping destination during September and October as the leaves turn beautiful hues of red, amber, and gold.
