Winter is here! And with the new season comes a flurry of excitement, from new restaurants to 60th anniversaries of two of our ski areas and the centennial celebration of Bauhaus design in Aspen. Read on to see what we’re most excited to experience this winter.

An early opening day! With plentiful early season snowfall and cold temperatures ideal of snowmaking, Aspen Snowmass has announced that Aspen Mountain will open early on Nov. 17. Conditions are so good, the mountain will be open with top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding as well as rope-drops to new terrain happening throughout the weekend.

$60 lift tickets! In celebration of Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk’s 60th anniversaries, Aspen Snowmass is offering $60 one-day lift tickets valid for skiing at all four mountains between opening day and Dec. 21, 2018. Learn more >>

Aspen Snowmass “Gives a Flake.” Aspen Skiing Company, operators of all four mountains, has launched a campaign to engage locals and visitors in climate-change activism. Their call to action to “protect your passion” urges people to take a stance on political issues surround climate change. Learn more >>

The new Aspen Snowmass App was built for both locals and visitors. It tracks skiing/riding stats, provides conditions info and updates, and offers rewards like food and beverage credits valid at on-mountain restaurants. Learn more >>

The Culinistas are coming to Aspen! Well-known in Manhattan and the Hamptons for their private chefs and weekly in-home meal prep services, these gourmands are moving to the mountains Dec. 14, 2018 – Jan. 6, 2019. Contact the Frias Properties Concierge to learn more or make a reservation.

7809 Aspen, named for the local elevation, is owned by Actor Roger Wilson (of Porky’s fame) along with NYC restauranteur Keith McNally and Aspenite Sharif Souki. The menu features comfort food with gourmet flare, and the in-house DJ adds a splashy vibe to the space that turns up for late-night entertainment. Clark’s Oyster Bar moved into the beloved Little Annie’s space after a dramatic remodel. They still offer the locals’ “shot and a beer” special, but their seafood-centric menu boasts oyster and caviar selections, freshly baked sourdough bread, lobster rolls, burgers, chowder, cioppino, and more. New York’s Eleven Madison Park is coming to Aspen with a pop-up restaurant concept at St. Regis Aspen Resort’s Chefs Club. Dubbed EMP Winter House and presented in partnership with American Express, diners can either enjoy Michelin-star-quality fare in the dining room or a new “yurt village” that offers tables of guests a private dining ambiance. Contact the Frias Properties Concierge for reservations.

Bad Harriet, a swanky speakeasy named after Jerome B Wheeler's wife, is located in the basement of the former Aspen Times building, adjacent to the Hotel Jerome. The underground late-night hot spot debuted last summer, but our winter guests will love the craft cocktails and the high-end/historic vibe. Contact the Frias Properties Concierge for more information.

Soul Cycle returns with a season-long pop-up studio in the former Boogie’s of Aspen space. The 45-minute indoor cycling classes offer high-intensity cardio and muscle-sculpting strength training, all with a pulsing soundtrack. The classes have a cult following in major cities, and the previous Aspen pop-up was hugely popular. Stay tuned for more information!

Celebrate the Bauhaus Centennial with Bauhaus100: Aspen with a year of events commemorating the modernist art school’s influence on this area’s architecture, art, design, and culture.
