Springtime often brings a sense of renewal to our lives and our homes. From more outdoor activity to spring cleaning, spring – and the longer daylight hours – can have us feeling motivated to make improvements. A couple of spring seasons ago, a very special unit at the Independence Square Hotel went through a renewal. Most of the units at Indy Square are studio apartments that comfortably sleep 2-3. But the owners of one unit saw an opportunity when the unit next door came on the real estate market. They purchased the next-door studio and began a seasons-long process of combining the two units into one.
Unit 203 currently at Independence Square was originally units 203 and 204, both studio apartments overstuffed with the necessities of living. To double the square footage would create an opportunity for a living area separate from the bedroom and two bathrooms – one full and one half – in the unit. A full-size kitchen was added as well to create a fully functional one-bedroom condo with lots of light and Aspen Mountain views.
To take advantage of the space, a six-person dining table is set comfortably near the living area in the open-floor-plan space. When combined with the three-person breakfast bar, seating for nine is no problem. The separate master bedroom features a king-size bed and a large flat-screen TV. The connecting bathroom has a large shower / tub combination and vanity.
When groups of four are looking at Indy Square for lodging, 203 also has a queen-size pull-out sofa making the unit very comfortably sleep four. A separate half bath provides some additional privacy for these guests.
“With these upgrades, we get more positive guest feedback and owners can rent the units for more,” says Lesley, a manager at the Independence Square. “We see more repeat guests to these upgraded units as well. We get guests asking to stay in their previous unit.”
