Labor Day Volleyball Action: MotherLode Classic 2025
Since 1972, the MotherLode Volleyball Classic has been a mainstay in Aspen every Labor Day Weekend, growing from an invitation-only event into one of the largest and most competitive pro-am outdoor doubles volleyball tournaments in the country. Once just a one-day affair, the tournament now spans five days, featuring 24 divisions of play across men’s, women’s, seniors, and masters categories. Over the years, it has welcomed former Olympians, volleyball legends, and rising stars, solidifying its reputation as both a proving ground for talent and a cultural highlight of the season.
Volleyball Magazine has called MotherLode “the social event of the outdoor volleyball season,” and today it attracts between 30 and 40 teams annually, competing on both sand and grass courts at Koch Lumber Park and Wagner Park in downtown Aspen. The 2025 tournament runs from August 27 – September 1, with amenities including pro-level nets, shade tents, sports massage, local vendors, and a bustling Central Court Village atmosphere. Newer divisions like the Baby Court Open 2v2 showcase emerging talent while offering cash prizes and innovative play formats.
