Aspen Snowmass Vacation Blog

In Aspen, Colorado, one of the more popular winter recreational activities is ice skating, and there are a few places to do it. Three of the more popular places to ice skate in Aspen are at SK8 (aka the Silver Circle Ice Rink), the Aspen Ice Garden, and the Lewis Ice Arena. In this week’s blog, we take a closer look at these three facilities. We’ll also tell you about a few activities you can do there - from beginners to experts!  Frias Properties of Aspen has supplied lodging for everyone from former NHL players to young couples with children experiencing their first time on the ice, so we can assist you in planning the vacation of your dreams.

SK8 (aka the Silver Ice Rink) Nothing is more amazing than ice skating outdoors at the foot of Aspen Mountain and underneath a sky full of stars. SK8 allows you to live out this fantasy, with an amazing outdoor rink at 433 E. Durant Ave. in downtown Aspen, close to the Rubey Park bus terminal and the Hyatt Grand Aspen. (Learn more about the Hyatt Grand Aspen.) Please remember that the SK8 ice rink in only available during the winter months - typically November through March, weather permitting. During the summer months, it’s actually used as a cool putt-putt golf course! Current prices are $7 for adults, $5.50 for children. Skate rental is $3 per person. The Aspen Ice Garden Located at 233 W. Hyman Ave. near downtown Aspen, the Aspen Ice Garden has one of the best maintained surfaces in the area. This facility is only open during programmed hours and many weekends. Make sure to call ahead. For more information, call 429-1728 or 970-544-4118.

The Lewis Ice Arena With an NHL-regulation surface (85 feet by 200 feet), grandstand seating for 450, and a comfortable lobby, the Lewis Ice Arena at the Aspen Rec Center (0861 Maroon Creek Road) is the most full-equipped facility in the valley. There is a skate shop that offers skate rentals and precision skate sharpening, as well as multiple team locker rooms and shower rooms. The Lewis Ice Arena is also equipped for full ADA accessibility. Programs at the Lewis Ice Arena include adult hockey leagues, curling, private rentals, pick-up hockey and birthday parties.
