The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport announced that American Airlines and United Airlines are expanding their air service and schedules into Aspen for the 2016 summer and fall seasons.
American Airlines is offering new summer nonstop flights from Chicago/O’Hare International Airport (ORD), expanding their existing daily flights from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW). American’s summer seasonal service from DFW, LAX and now ORD began on June 2. Flights from LAX and ORD are scheduled to operate daily through Aug. 15, while daily nonstop flights from DFW are now scheduled to continue into the fall season, daily through Oct. 5.
United Airlines will offer new summer nonstop flights from San Francisco International Airport. This will add to their existing summer service from Denver International Airport, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles. New nonstop flights from San Francisco started June 9 and continue through Aug. 15. Seasonal nonstop flights from Houston resumed June 3, while flights from Chicago and Los Angeles began June 9. United will continue to operate daily year-round service from Denver with as few as four flights daily at times during the spring to as many as nine daily during the summer.
Aspen is a small airport, but prior to 9:30 a.m., there are up to seven flights departing within 15 minutes of each other. The airport will be operating at near capacity during this summer and the airlines and TSA recommend passengers with checked bags arrive 120 minutes prior to departure and 90 minutes prior with carry-ons, especially if your flight departs before 9:30 a.m. TSA will be open at 5:15 a.m., ticket counters open at 5:30 a.m.
Please plan accordingly. Remember to account for traffic, parking, ticketing and other issues that may add time to your arrival. Do not risk missing your flight!
