What is Ski Aspen?

It'll be the best ski vacation you’ve ever had! Seriously! When folks embark on a Ski Aspen trip, they gain access to ski instruction, the best mountains in the region, exciting après-ski events, and moments of quiet downtime (especially in a Frias vacation rental). Ski Aspen helps put together ski vacation itineraries so that you don’t have to go to all the hard work of planning your time. The most preparation you’ll have to do is making sure you’re ready to hit the ski slopes!

When Did the Trips Start?

The first Ski Aspen trip took place over 30 years ago, in 1996! 2026 marks the 31st year of this beloved tradition. With that much experience, it’s safe to say they know how to plan a trip.

Why Aspen?

You may be curious: why travel all the way from Australia to Aspen? Well, the answer is that Aspen is worth it. When you ski in Aspen, you’re not just gaining access to one ski area—all four mountains are unbelievable. Plus, Aspen gets an incredible amount of snow every year, sometimes accumulating as much as 26 feet (or 8 meters!). The nicely packed, dry Colorado snow is the perfect surface for gliding down one of our four beauteous mountains.

The world-class skiing can’t be beat, and at this point, Ski Aspen knows the area better than anybody. You’ll feel like a local out on the trails!

Do You Have to Be an Experienced Skier to Enjoy Ski Aspen?

No! There are plenty of off-mountain events at local bars and restaurants, and you can sign up for ski instruction if you’re looking for some extra guidance. Plus, since there’s such a wide range of trails between the four mountains, you’re sure to find something that works for you.

How Long Does it Take to Travel from Australia to Aspen?

We can admit—getting here is the tricky part. The overall travel process from Australia to Aspen will likely be 15-20 hours, but it’s worth it, we promise!

Travel Tips for Ski Aspen Week

The great thing about Ski Aspen is that everything is planned for you! After thirty years of traveling to Aspen, we’ve got you covered on most fronts. However, there are still some basic guidelines you should follow to make the most of your time.

Layer Like a Pro

Colorado’s winter weather can shift quickly. Pack breathable base layers, a warm mid-layer, and a waterproof ski jacket. Don’t forget high-quality gloves, goggles, and a neck gaiter—Aspen mornings can be chilly.

Hydrate Early and Often

Aspen sits at 7,900 feet, so the altitude can sneak up on you. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy alcohol on your first night, and consider an electrolyte boost to stay comfortable on the slopes.

Take it Easy on Day 1

Your legs and lungs will thank you. Use your first ski day to warm up, explore base areas, and get familiar with the terrain. If you’re joining Ski Aspen ski lessons, this is the perfect day to find your group.

Protect Your Gear

Bring a universal power adapter for charging devices, plus a ski lock if you plan to leave your skis unattended between runs or during lunch.

Take Advantage of Downtime

Ski Aspen trips come with an exciting itinerary, but don’t forget to rest. Enjoy your Frias vacation rental, soak in a hot tub, or explore shops and galleries in town.

Pack Smart for the Altitude and Dry Climate

Lip balm, sunscreen, and moisturizer are essentials. Colorado’s sun is strong—even on snowy days.

The Best Accommodations Around—Ski Aspen Stays with Frias

Nick Farr of Trek Climb Ski (a ski tour company that’s partnered with Ski Aspen for over twenty years) has chosen Frias Properties as the accommodations for Aspen Ski since 2009, and we’re pleased to work with him. Says Farr: “The biggest concern for me as a tour organizer is to make sure to get the accommodations right. The relationship we’ve developed with Frias takes a lot of the pressure off because they are flexible and work with us to make sure we have all the accommodations we need.”

Now that’s some high praise! We’re honored to have partnered with Ski Aspen for almost two decades.

What is altitude sickness, and should I worry about it?

Some visitors feel mild symptoms such as headache, fatigue, or shortness of breath due to Aspen’s high elevation (7,900 feet). Staying hydrated, taking it easy the first day, and avoiding heavy alcohol can help.
