Each fall, the skies above Snowmass come alive with a kaleidoscope of color during the annual Snowmass Hot Air Balloon Festival. For three days, dozens of balloons lift off the valley floor and drift across the mountains. It’s one of the most photographed events in the Rockies!

Launches happen all day long; early birds can catch morning launches, with crisp mountain air and golden sunlight, making for stunning views. On Friday evening, the popular “Night Glow” brings the balloons back to the field, where they light up the night sky in a magical display, complete with music and a festive atmosphere.

You can park nearby and take in the launches up close, or head out on Snowmass’s trail system to find the perfect vantage point. Some guests bring breakfast from a local food truck, others hike or bike for a more active start to the day, but everyone leaves with memories of a uniquely Aspen-Snowmass tradition. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime fan, the Snowmass Hot Air Balloon Festival is one of those events that never loses its magic.
