A ski packing list is an easy way to make sure you don’t forget any of the essentials on your next Aspen ski vacation. And if you do, one of the many great things about skiing in Aspen is that the entire town is set up to accommodate people on ski vacations.
No matter if this is your first time in Aspen or you’ve been skiing for years, a good packing list can make your trip much smoother. Bringing the right clothes, gear, and accessories means you’ll be prepared for everything from hitting the slopes to resting after a day outside.
Fortunately, you don't have to pack everything. You can rent almost any type of ski or snowboard equipment from Ski Butlers or Four-Mountain Sports, and the Frias Properties concierge can recommend clothing rental options or point you toward the best ski shops for buying new gear. When you rent ski equipment, you also eliminate the need to travel with unwieldy bags overflowing with gear. We recommend you save yourself the hassle of bringing your own gear and rent it in Aspen. Plus, reserving your equipment in advance saves you money and time!
What to Wear Skiing in Aspen

If you’re planning to ski in Aspen, it’s important to dress in layers. Begin with a moisture-wicking base layer, add a warm mid-layer, and top it off with a waterproof ski jacket and pants. This way, you’ll stay comfortable no matter how the mountain weather changes while you’re out on the slopes. Below you'll find some additional clothing items to pack.
- A couple of warm base layers (tops & bottoms): Make sure these are made from moisture-wicking materials like polypropylene or merino wool. Leave the cotton at home!
- A warm mid-layer top: A fleece zip-up, down vest, or a wool sweater will do the trick!
- Water resistant ski jacket
- Water resistant ski pants
- A few pairs of ski or snowboard socks: No cotton!
- A warm hat or beanie
- Neck gaiter or Buff
